Purpose

The Great Lakes Pastel Society is a non-profit organization, established to promote, encourage and foster public awareness and creative painting with pastels, encourage pastel artists in their growth and success, provide instructive activities and exhibition opportunities to benefit pastel art and artists, and provide the opportunity for fellowship among pastel artists.

Society History and Activities

Our Society was founded in 1997 by a group of pastel painters from the Grand Rapids, Michigan area. They envisioned an organization of members from around the Great Lakes, thus this became the name of our society. In 2007 we celebrated our tenth anniversary with over 200 members located throughout the Great Lakes States and several long distance members.

The society holds an annual exhibition which alternates between a National Show in even numbered years and a Member’s Show in odd numbered years. There are 4-6 events/meetings scheduled each year throughout the Great Lakes area. These events include paint-outs, technical presentations and informational meetings and critiques. Several satellite groups operating within the organization meet more frequently for painting opportunities. The organization provides members with a bi-monthly newsletter and a web site.

Upcoming Events

Events can be viewed with maps and directions on the GLPS web site.

Our fiscal year runs January through December and dues for the current year must be received by February in order to be included in the membership roster for the year.
