SHOWCASE: SIERRA PASTEL SOCIETY
Sierra Pastel Society

Purpose
To provide educational and exhibition opportunities for pastelists through lessons, workshops, demonstrations, and exhibitions as well as educating the public about the merits of soft pastel.
Society History and Activities
The Sierra Pastel Society (SPS) was founded in 1999 to promote the use and merit of pastel painting. We are based on the west slope of the Sierra Nevada mountains in California and our membership consists of both artists and patrons of soft pastel from all over the United States, Canada, and abroad. SPS sponsors two Membership Shows each year, in the spring and the fall, featuring numerous awards, and a week long public exhibition, and reception. Our society is the curator of ‘Pastels on High’ a high quality, annual, international, open juried exhibition. In addition to these exhibitions, SPS sponsors various workshops, paint-outs and other art events which are generally announced and promoted through our bi-monthly newsletter.
